The Ågelsjön Mini hatchet is the smallest hatchet in Hultafors range it is very well suited for hiking in the mountains or in the woods as well as making spoons and wood craft, it is certainly ideal for the younger person or someone who isn’t used to swinging an axe all day due to the short handle giving you the ability to hold it very close to the head to improve the accuracy of the blows.

All of our Hultafors axes have the added bonus of leaving our workshop with a Ben Orford regrind making them razor sharp and ready for action straight out of the box at no extra charge.

Due to this short handle and overall lightweight design, the Ågelsjön Mini Hatchet makes the perfect outdoor axe for short trips or your carving kit and is very easy to use and carry.

Obviously this is not the axe to pick if you have a lot of wood cutting and splitting to do and certainly would not be any good for felling small trees or removing branches as the short handed would be a real disadvantage, but as a compact craft axe then this is a great choice.

We really like the confidence that it will give new users as they won’t feel out of control when picking up an axe for the first time. Also, if you are having to produce lots of smaller items such as spoons you can set yourself up with a chopping block and sit for quite a few hours removing the waste with very short accurate blows.

Not the axe to go for if you want to remove lots of wood quickly as you just don’t have the mechanical advantage but a great craft axe or if you want children to have a go with an axe for the first time in a safe manner

This axe is named after the nearby lake, Ågelsjön, where the water needed to run the waterwheel for the forge was once taken.
